GUWAHATI: In an exchange of opinion with the media on the eve of the New Year, Border Area Development Minister Atul Bora spoke at length on the initiatives taken by the State Government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to resolve inter-state border issues.

Bora said, "The successive Congress governments in the state and at the Centre could have resolved all border issues with the neighbouring states, but they did not. The present government has been trying its best to resolve the border issues with the neighbouring states. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held discussions with the Chief Ministers of Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram at the preliminary stage. He also talked to his counterparts in the neighbouring states for several rounds to solve the inter-state border issues later. Especially with Meghalaya, we have taken the border talks to a great extent."

On the delimitation of Lok Sabha and Parliamentary constituencies in the state, Bora said, "The AGP welcomes the move. The delimitation will not change the number of constituencies. It will redraw the peripheries of the constituencies."

On New Year Resolutions of the AGP, he said, "Our goal is to make a self-reliant Assam based on strong brotherhood and exemplary work culture. We will try our best to make the state youth industrious enough to make the state economically self-reliant. Our efforts will continue to bring back AGP leaders and members who have deserted the party to the party fold. The AGP will continue to work as an ally of the BJP to translate the five dreams of the Chief Minister to make Assam one of the five most developed states of the nation into a reality. The new generation will have to lead to translate the dream of self-reliant Assam into a reality. I appeal to all to join the AGP to strengthen regionalism to involve themselves in solving their problems."

Health Minister and AGP working president Keshab Mahanta and senior party leader Phani Bhushan Choudhury were also present at the exchange of opinion programme.
