GUWAHATI: On the direction of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) launched the Jan Jagaran Abhiyan on Sunday.

APCC president Bhupen Kumar Bora launched the Jan Jagaran Abhiyan at Ghoramara Tiniali and it proceeded to Chengelijan Tea Estate under Dibrugarh district where the APCC president addressed the public gathering highlighting the issues of uncontrolled sky-high price rise of essential commodities and mishandling of economy by the Central Government as well as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Assam Government. About 500 people took part in the Pada Yatra. This Pada Yatra was also attended by senior Congress leaders like Ranee Narah and Pranatee Phukan, besides Congress workers and a large number of well wishers of the party.

In Guwahati, the Jan Jagaran Abhiyan was taken out jointly by APCC and Guwahati City DCC from Rajiv Bhavan to Ulubari and back to Rajiv Bhavan where around 200 Congress workers participated in the Pada Yatra. Subsequently, rich tribute was paid to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India, on the occasion of Children's Day. A meeting was convened at Rajiv Bhavan by the 75th Year of Independence (year-long programme) Committee to commemorate this occasion.
