GUWAHATI: Reacting to the grand alliance formed under the aegis of the Congress, State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) Ranjit Kumar Das said that the grand alliance would not affect BJP's prospects in the upcoming State polls.

Ending all speculations the Congress on Tuesday announced to forge alliance with five other political parties to defeat the ruling BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The parties which will join the Congress-led alliance are AIUDF, CPI, CPI (M), CPI (ML) and AnchalikGanaMorcha.

Dass made the statement while addressing the media after a joining programme at their party headquarters in Hengerabari. Several workers from the BPF (Bodoland People's Front) and the GSP (GanaSuraksha Party) joined the party during the programme.

Talking to the media persons, Dass elaborated as to why the grand alliance will not affect the BJP in the forthcoming polls. Dass said, "Similar grand alliances were forged earlier, and it didn't affect the BJP or the NDA. The people have blessed the party with their votes. We have taken a target to achieve more than 100 seats through our A+A=100 model. A+A means achievement of government and activities of the party. Under both the As we are planning to achieve our mission 100+ goal."

The leader said the people have been witness to the achievements of the Assam government. He said the BJP-led government has done works which the over the years the successive Congress governments in Assam couldn't do.

Dass pointed out that in the last LokSabha polls in Mangaldai constituency, the AIUDF and the Congress forged a secret alliance. Despite it, with a margin of 1.50 lakh votes, the BJP won the polls, he stressed. "This year too, the friendship of the Congress and the AIUDF won't affect the BJP," Dass reiterated. He claimed that due to the alliance of the AIUDF and the Congress, the BJP will achieve good results in upper Assam.

"The BJP will win in Golaghat, Sarupathar, Titabor, Doomdooma, Naoboicha, Sivasagar, Mariani and Nazira. The minority people are not blind supporters of the Congress and the AIUDF. These minority people will vote with conscience," Dass asserted.

Further, the State BJP president stated that out of 21,970 panchayat members in the last State Panchayat Election, while 33 and three members were elected from the CPI and CPI (M) respectively, over 11,000 members were elected from the BJP and AGP alliance. "Thus, how the CPI and the CPI (M) will affect the BJP in the polls," Dass added.
