Cottonians Pay Tribute to Anti-CAA Martyrs At Cotton University

GUWAHATI: The Cottonians paid their tribute to the five who met their unfortunate death in the anti-CAA protest. Organizing a Shradhanjali programme on Cotton University premises the students of the University paid tribute to the five martyrs on the day of Christmas.
Former general secretary of Cotton College Students’ Union Jintu Thakuria said, “We want to name this anti-CAA protest as the protest to save the pride of the tribes. In this protest we’ve lost five people. The government actually killed five innocent people. We’ve organized this Shradhanjali to pay our respects and tribute to the five martyrs. From the premise of Cotton University we demand the government to not to do any politics of Rs 2 or 3 lakh but to pay necessary compensation. We also demand necessary actions to ensure the remembrance of the martyrs.”
“Through this shradhanjali programme we appeal to the authority to name the Bidyarthi Bhawan going under construction in the name of the five martyrs. We believe that as per the wish of the students’ community of Cotton University the Bhawan will be named in memory of the five martyrs,” Thakuria added.
Hirak Jyoti Bora, a student of Cotton University, said, “We’re not only paying our tribute but we also demand justice for the five martyrs. The students have already filed a complaint and a case has been registered demanding justice for them.”
Former general secretary of Cotton University Students’ Union Pranjal Kalita said, “The government has already dishonoured the 855 martyrs of the Assam Agitation. This time they must provide justice to the five martyrs. We’ll never accept their vote bank politics and the people Assam have got united. They’re coming together to throw away the government who can’t stand for its people. They hardly have one year in their hands and then we’ll throw them away from Assam. The people of Assam will live with pride after that.”
