GUWAHATI: Following the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and in order to minimize the risk of ingress of new variants of SARS - COV-2, authorities at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati has started to take random COVID tests of passengers arriving on international flights.

The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati has set up a special counter for Airport Health Officer to carry out the necessary tests at arrival lounge keeping the view of safety for passengers and stakeholders working in the airport.

As per the current protocols, all passengers arriving at the airport via an international flight have to go through thermal screening and 2% of the passengers are randomly tested using RT-PCR at the airport itself.

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport currently has scheduled international flights only on Saturday and Sunday every week. The weekly flight from Bhutan arrives in Guwahati every Saturday while that from Singapore arrives every Sunday. And this week, the flights had only 10 and 6 passengers respectively.

This country is still trying to figure out how to prevent another outbreak of Covid-19. Random testing of passengers at airports and genome sequencing of all positive cases are among the steps taken to prevent the propagation of the new BF.7 variant of the virus, which is said to be much more contagious compared to the previous ones.

The airport also celebrated Christmas yesterday with its passengers and the students of the nearby St. Claret School. The student performed a brilliant cultural show making the Christmas celebrations even more delightful. A jolly-good parade was also organized that was led by a Santa with drums playing and chocolates being handed out to the young passengers. Two Christmas special cribs were also set up by the authorities for the travellers to click pictures with.
