Guwahati:  After the detection of Covid-19 positive cases at Krishna Nagar at Gosala under Maligaon locality in Guwahati, the area has been tagged as a Containment Zone and sealed.

Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu directed the circle officer, Guwahati revenue circle to seal the areas with immediate effect. The boundaries of the containment zone in Central Jail are as follows:

North: Krishna Nagar Road

South: Mitha Amtol

East: Adingiri Village

West: Gosala Adingiri Road

This order has been made under the regulations "The Assam Covid-19 Regulations, 2020", "The Disaster Management Act-2005", "The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897", and other relevant laws of the nation. Any violation of this rule will now attract punishment under relevant sections of the law. At the same time, the CRPF Group Centre in Guwahati's 9-Mile has been unmarked as a Containment Zone after no new cases were detected.

Alarmingly, Assam has to date reported 2,115 cases of the virus. Yesterday, 158 fresh cases of the Covid-19 were reported in Assam, while 29 persons were discharged after recovering from the respiratory illness, taking the total number up to 442. The Covid-19 related death toll in the state stands rooted at 4 and the last death was reported on May 19.

Meanwhile, India's tally of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) has surged beyond 226,700 and 6,348 people have died so far, according to the central government's data. In worrying signs, the cases are now rising at an unprecedented rate. India reported crossing the 25,000-mark in 87 days on April 26, but this number gets added every two days now, according to the Union Health Ministry's Data.
