GUWAHATI: "Violating the Ceiling Act, land patta for 300 bighas of Mikir Bamuni Grant Land was allotted to a family from the village by the Government. The family later sold the land to Delhi-based Azuri Power Forty Private Company Limited (APFPCL). Allotting 300 bighas to a family is a sheer violation of the Act," lamented Communist Party of India (CPI), Nagaon district secretary Ratul Bora while addressing the media.
The meet was held to support the 150 families of the Mikir Bamuni Grant Land where several residents of Mikir Bamuni village were also present.
The CPI questioned the Nagaon District Commissioner as to how the land for grant was sold to a company by converting it into myadi land. It also questioned how the district administration allowed the APFPCL to start construction without having any Environmental Clearance Certificate.
CPI State secretary Munin Mahanta underlined that on January 8, Nagaon Session Court will give an interim judgment over the allotment of the land to the 150 families.
Meanwhile, one of the residents of Mikir Bamuni Grant Land, KaweiIngti alleged that the 150 families of area are being harassed by the police on a regular basis as they have denied signing a No Objection Certificate for the allotment of land to APFPCL.
"On December 29, the police entered into our cultivated land and destroyed the crops. Despite having women officers, the male police personnel assaulted the women and arrested a man who came to our rescue. Later in the night three more men were arrested without any notice. The police also blocked the road that leads to the field," Ingti alleged.
