GUWAHATI: The North Eastern Zone (NEZ), Guwahati launched a massive plantation drive organised by Group Centre CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), Guwahati with the active participation of Green warriors comprising of all ranks of the force and their families. S.R. Ojha, ADG (Additional Director General) NEZ steered the drive in 9th Mile by planting a plumeria sapling and motivating the Green warriors with his address.
The ADG emphasised the conservation of forests, inculcation of environmental sensitivity in children, minimising the carbon footprint etc to ensure that we hand over the planet to our future generation, a little greener than that we inherited from our forefathers.
The occasion witnessed the plantation of 45,000 saplings of fruit-bearing trees comprising of mango, peepal, Jamun, neem,vatvriksh, litchi etc.
Further, an awareness drive and a workshop were conducted to generate environment sensitivity among force personnel, their families, and school children.
Last year, the unprecedented efforts of the CRPF were univocally appreciated when it planted 25 lakh saplings crossing its assigned target of 22 lakh saplings. Further, the 3.25 lakh strength force along with volunteer families' members forming more than a million Green warriors, under the leadership of Kuldiep Singh, DG (Director General), CRPF has set the target of 22 lakh trees for 2021, stated a CRPF press release.
