Customer loses Rs 35,000 to to unidentified cyber fraudsters

GUWAHATI: Nur Ahmed, a resident of Gandhi Basti, lost around Rs 35,000 to unidentified cyber fraudsters after he ordered a book from an online portal.

According to police, Ahmed received a call on December 29 which stated that he had been shortlisted for a lucky draw from the online portal for ordering the book.

The victim was then asked to deposit small sums of money through online payment system for different official sounding reasons, amounting to Rs 34,989 to win the lucky draw.

A case (1047/20 u/s 423/379) has been registered in this regard and the investigation is underway.
