GUWAHATI: With the rains continuing in several parts of the state, the number of vector-borne diseases remains a cause for concern. Although the number of Japanese encephalitis cases has come down, dengue remains a major health concern for the state. According to a report published by the health department, a total of 3954 cases of dengue have been reported in the state from January 1 until August 25, resulting in four deaths so far. 451 cases of Japanese encephalitis, with 26 deaths, and 286 cases of malaria have also been recorded in the same period of time. As of August 25, a total of 125 active cases of dengue exist in the state, out of which 92 are in the Karbi Anglong East district and 15 in Dima Hasao. Hojai district has 8 active cases, Golaghat has 3, and Nalbari has 2. Barpeta, Chirang, Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, and Sivasagar districts have one active case each.
