GUWAHATI: The state BJP on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress for their false narratives and ill-favourable discussion of the development work done by their party. By doing this, they have only exposed their true nature before the people, the BJP said.

The statement was given by the spokesperson duo, Rupam Goswami and Subhas Dutta, during a press conference organized at the state BJP headquarters at Atal Behari Vajpayee Bhawan in the city on Monday. They said that the blueprint for the development of Guwahati city has been made possible only by the BJP’s leadership.

BJP Rupam Goswami asserted that, before criticizing the BJP, the Congress leaders should have realized that they had been provided the opportunity to develop Guwahati city, which is considered the gateway to the Northeast. But the Congress’ lack of foresight and haphazard planning, as well as unplanned construction, have led to the burning problems of the city, like water logging, he said.

He further pointed to the failure of the previous dispensation in the state to keep the water bodies of the city free from encroachment, which has led to the problem of artificial floods and due to which the people are suffering.

Goswami went on to say that, after the BJP came to power in 2016, development works were started in the city after carrying out a study of the city’s terrain and keeping in mind the benefit to the people. He said many flyovers and foot bridges have come up. Roads have been made ‘pucca.’ The GMC is regularly cleaning the drains as well as digging the Bharalu and Bahini rivulets passing through the city, he added.

“People responded to the call for Swachhata by PM Modi, due to which the magnitude of flash floods has lessened”, he said.

Rupam Goswami further said that, under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Guwahati city is turning into one of the most developed cities in the country. The steps taken by the CM for the development of the city will benefit the city’s residents in the future, he added. Adding to this, BJP spokesperson Subhas Dutta said that the Congress leaders are jealous of the popularity and success of the chief minister and hate him. He added that CM Sarma’s acceptability has increased at the national level, a fact for which the Congress leaders are spending sleepless nights.

At present, development works are being done under the Smart City project, Dutta said. Parks have been developed, and street lights as well as CCTV cameras have been installed, he added.
