GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Monday alleged that the State Government has been unable to provide adequate relief to thousands of flood-affected people and claimed that many people are staying in relief camps with the required relief materials.
Addressing the media, APCC media department chairman Manjit Mahanta and women's wing chief Meera Borthakur further alleged that rescue operations in flood-affected areas are not being carried at the required pace.
The two Congress leaders said that the situation has arisen because the Centre has not released funds under the National Disaster Reponse Fund (NDTF). They claimed that Assam did not receive a single rupee under the NDRF in the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 financial years. In 2020-2021, Assam received only Rs 44.37 crore under the NDRF, they said, adding that no fund was released yet again in 2021-2022. On the other hand, in the financial year 2021-2022 Gujarat received Rs 1,000 under the NDRF, Maharashtra received Rs 701 crore, Odisha received Rs 500 crore, West Bengal received Rs 300 crore, Karnataka received Rs 629 crore etc., they said.
The two Congress leaders further claimed that 267 schemes for 2021-2022 for construction of embankments remained incomplete.
They demanded that adequate relief should be immediately provided to the flood-affected people and their re-location to safer locations, along with provision of due facilities to women and children.
