GUWAHATI: The Dispur Press Club (DPS) on Sunday celebrated the fifth foundation day on its premises here. Even though the foundation day was scheduled to be celebrated on March 29, it was postponed due to imposition of the COVID-induced lockdown in the country.

With an aim to celebrate the foundation day in a befitting manner the DPS conferred the awards for the year 2020 to 14 individuals for their contribution in different aspects of the society.

Editor Sadin Anuradha Sarma Pujari was conferred on the Editor Award-2020 for her contribution in the field of Journalism. Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Assam Police Rajib Saikia was awarded with SangbaadBandhov (Media Friend) Award -2020 for his special initiative in bridging a good relationship between the media and the police.

Senior journalist of The SentinelMousamjyotiBaishya received the Sangabadik Sangathok Kalyan Award. Baishya has been selected for his active participation in materialization of different developmental schemes for the media persons. Besides awarding Dr. Hitesh Barua for the JeevanSanjivanee Award and renowned social worker Dr. Dibya Jyoti Saikia for Manavata Award (Humanity Award), the DPC conferred the Gyanjyoti Award on the Director of Directorate of Technical Education, Assam Dr. Atul Bora, DIG in Assam Police ArabindaKalita for Philanthropist Police Award and Member Secretary of State Level Advisory Committee for Students and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam LakhyaKonwar for Youth Politician Award.

The names of the other awardees were Eva Mahanta of News 18 Assam North East for News Anchor Award, Utpal Bonia for Udyogi Award, Jitul Deka for Jagrata Yuva Award, Moonmi Phukan for her contributions in cinema and mobile theatre, Nirmali S Borah for promising actress in Hengool mobile theatre and Abhijit Sarma of APW for bravery award (Sarma could not attend the function). Former president Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXM) and veteran journalist Kanak Sen Deka who conferred all the awards, said the journalists must work hard with dedication to bring out news that really matter for the society's welfare.

Editor Sadin Anuradha Sarma Pujari while speaking at the function thanked the DPS for selecting a women journalist for the Editor Award-2020. Veteran journalists Baikuntha Nath Goswami and Amal Gupta and DPS president NarenHazarika were present at the function. General secretary of the DPS Kunja Mohan Rai conducted the function.
