GUWAHATI: The State government has urged the Centre to release the second installment of SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) for the financial year 2020-21.

The Revenue and Disaster Management (R&DM) department has written a letter to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) seeking the release of the second installment of SDRF for the year 2020-21, amounting to Rs 386 crore.

The total SDRF allocation for Assam for the year 2020-21 is Rs 858 crore, and the funding pattern is 90:10, i.e. 90 per cent by the Central government and 10 per cent by the State government. The total SDRF money of a given fiscal is released in two installments.

The Centre has already released its share of the first installment of the SDRF in April this year, and that has led the State government to release its matching share. However, this year more SDRF money had to be spent due to corona pandemic and floods. And this has led the department to write a letter to the Union Home Ministry to release the second installment early.
