GUWAHATI: The vigilant Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of Alipurduar Junction station spotted and rescued a distressed woman of Andhra Pradesh from the station on last Sunday (April 28, 2019). She was later handed over to civil authorities who would transfer her home.
The women, aged around 35 years was found roaming around alone in the station and was found visibly distraught. She was accosted by RPF personnel but could not provide any information as she could speak only Telegu language. An interpreter was arranged and with the help of the interpreter it was gathered that she was from Urivi village under Pedana police station of Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh and had left home almost one month ago.
Her family was contacted and informed about her whereabouts. In the meantime, the woman was produced before a magistrate in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate of Alipurduar on Monday who had directed to hand over the woman to Coochbehar Shelter Home till arrival of her relatives.
It may be mentioned that the RPF personnel of Rangiya had also rescued a teenage girl found in similar distressed condition at Rangiya station on Monday and handed her over to her relatives, a press release stated.
