JAIPUR: Partha Sarthi Mahanta won two awards in the ongoing Jaipur International Film Festival for his documentary on wildlife conservation and a biographical film about Lachit Borphukan.
A total of 2205 films from 80 different countries are showcased in the Jaipur International Festival. It will also encapsulate 25 workshops, seminars and discussions aimed at knowledge sharing related to cinema.
'Hargila - The Greater Adjutant Stork', a documentary about the conservation of this endangered species directed by Partha Sarthi Mahanta and produced by Mina Mahanta and Indrani Barua received the Best Documentary Award in the international film festival. The award was received from noted actor and director Aparna Sen.
Partha Sarthi Mahanta also won the Best Director while Anupam Mahanta bagged the Best Creative Director award in the Animated Film Category for their project 'Lachit - the Warrior'. These prizes were handed over by the famous director Pankaj Parasar.
'Hargila - the Greater Adjutant Stork' is a documentary series regarding the systematic conservation efforts of the endangered species by a team of women led by Purnima Devi Barman in the Dadara and Pacharia villages of the Kamrup district of Assam. It also showcased the efforts put in by the women of the rural region despite their problems and hardship has made it one of the best documentation of such conservation efforts. These efforts received ample support from the police administration and encouragement from the SP Kamrup of the time.
The award is a mark of respect to all those rural women who contributed to the success of the project mentioned by Partha Sarthi Mahanta and called it a proud moment for all Assamese people.
Apart from the Jaipur International Film Festival, it has been showcased in 7 noted film festivals across the world as of now. Some of them are the Mumbai Short Film Festival, Delhi International Film Festival, Goal Film Festival, Pune Cinema Festival, Tagore International Film Festival, Wildlife Conservation Film Festival in New York and SOFA Animals Wildlife Environment and Conservation in Cyprus.
A biographical poem about the great Ahom general written by Partha Sarthi Mahanta formed the essence of the animated film about Lachit Borphukan. Dr Amal Jyoti Choudhary recited the beautiful creation. The background score composed by Rupam Talukdar and the effects created by Ratul Dutta and Hrishikesh Bora added to the overall grandeur of the presentation and thus made it one of the best in the category, a press release said.
