GUWAHATI: The accused in the Noonmati double murder case appeared before the Kamrup (M) District and Sessions Judge Court on Monday. All three accused were previously released on bail by the court as the police were not able to file the necessary charge sheet for the case in the stipulated time period.
The key accused for the murder of Amarjyoti Dey and his mother Shankari Dey, Bandana Kalita, appeared before the court on Monday. The two accomplices of the key accused, namely Dhonti Deka and Arup Deka, were also present in court.
As the investigating officer of the case failed to submit the charge sheet within a period of ninety days, the court granted bail to all the accused persons. The court had also imposed the conditions of appearing twice a week at Noonmati Police Station for Bandana Kalita, along with the restriction of going out of the district without prior permission from the court.
The spine-chilling double murder case came to light in the month of February this year when police arrested the prime accused, Bandana Kalita. The trio allegedly murdered Bandana's husband, Amarjyoti Dey, and mother-in-law, Sankari Dey. According to Bandana's statements during interrogation, she was married to Amarjyoti Dey against the wishes of their families. Their post-marital relationship was not cordial, as her husband had relationships with multiple women, and she also had a bitter relationship with Sankari Dey. To get rid of those two, she planned this whole murder with her associates.
Banadana Kalita was charged in connection with a missing report of a man at Noonmati Police Station, registered as No. 56/22, on August 29, 2022. Additionally, a case was filed against her at Noonmati Police Station, registered as No. 480/22 under sections 365/382 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and sections 302/201 of the IPC were also added to the case.
