GUWAHATI: Indigenous Muslims have said that they have been betrayed in the draft delimitation. The All Assam Goriya-Moriya-Deshi Jatiya Parishad organized a citizen meeting at Hazi Musafir Khan, Guwahati, where they adopted a motion to move to the Supreme Court related to the draft of delimitation. The meeting was chaired by the President of the Parishad, Shahnawaz Hussain, who explained the objectives. The working president of the Parishad is Nurul Haque.

The meeting adopted several important resolutions for the political security of Garia, Maria, Deshi, Jolha, and others. The meeting unanimously decided to form a coordination committee to bring together the ethnic organizations of Garia, Maria, Deshi, Jolha etc. to launch a unified movement across the state against the betrayal of these ethnic groups in the recently published draft of delimitation in the constituency.

The meeting decided to move the Supreme Court against the draft delimitation. The meeting decided to hold citizens' meetings in various parts of Assam to build public opinion against the draft. The meeting strongly condemned the conspiracy and decided to launch a massive mass agitation against the misconduct of the Election Commission of India and demand the cancellation of the draft.

Nurul Haque said, "The Garia, Maria, Deshi, and other communities submitted a memorandum on March 23 demanding protection of their political interests, which the Election Commission of India (ECI) rejected. And the ECI published a one-sided draft of delimitation, betraying the indigenous Muslims."

The meeting decided to submit a memorandum to the Election Commission by July 11 and meet the Election Commission of India officials who intend to come back to Assam and submit a memorandum containing various demands to protect the political rights of the indigenous people of Assam. The meeting decided to submit a separate memorandum in support of the demand to the Central Government and the Chief Minister of Assam. The meeting was attended by a number of central and district-level leaders and workers of the Parishad, leaders of various political and non-political parties and organizations in the state, and prominent people.
