GUWAHATI: The much-awaited Durga Puja has finally arrived and the anticipations of the city dwellers are high for grander than ever celebrations around the city. Puja committees, as usual, are busy bees. Thematic puja is not new in Assam. The Baroyari Durga Puja Committee, which is celebrating 76 years of puja, has carved their idol and the structure from recycled waste. The main motive of the Committee is to make a striking pandal, different from the usual materials used in construction. Waste such as peanut shells, husks of wood-apple, etc are being used. The budget of the Puja Committee is Rs 25 lakh. They are also not going to cut cost in any security aspects. Besides deployment of volunteers and home guards, they are set to install CCTV cameras, and measures for firefighting.

The Committee informed that 76 years back, they started pandal construction with just Rs 130, and have come a long way since then.
