GUWAHATI: An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale jolted Guwahati on Wednesday.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremors were felt at 5:54 PM today. The epicentre of the earthquake was at Sonitpur.

There were no reports of any loss of life or damage to property due to the earthquake.

Earlier, in December 2020, an earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale was felt in Sonitpur district's Tezpur in Assam.

The tremor was felt around 10.46 AM on Saturday at a depth of 10 KM. The epicentre of the quake was nearby Tezpur, Assam.

Further, on November 3, 2020, an earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale shook parts of Assam, Meghalaya and Manipur along with the neighbouring country Bangladesh in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

The tremor was felt at 1.13 AM on Tuesday, at a depth of 10 KM. The epicentre of the earthquake was at Nongstoin, Meghalaya. Nongstoin is 81 KM from Guwahati.
