GUWAHATI: “Educational and cultural connectivity between Bangladesh and India’s NorthEast is very much required, apart from business and trade relations,” said Tipu Munshi, Minister of Commerce, Bangladesh at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya here on Wednesday. Munshi was addressing students and academicians in a programme on “India’s North East and Bangladesh: Higher Education Roadmap” organised by USTM. The programme was also attended by Dr AHM Ahsan, Jt Secy Ministry Commerce, Bangladesh; Salim Hussain, Deputy Secty. Ministry of Commerce Bangladesh; Dr Abdul Hannan and Azizur Zaman, both eminent social workers and businessmen from Bangladesh; A Hoque, Commerce Councillor, Bangladesh; Dr SM Tanvir Monsur, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, apart from others.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Tipu Munshi said that connectivity of ‘heart to heart’ is very important for advancing the relationship between Bangladesh and India which includes educational, sports and cultural connectivity. “I really appreciate the success story of Mahbubul Hoque within 19 years’ time and his effort in promoting higher education in the region. His dream can be distributed everywhere, USTM and the North East can be the next education destination from Bangladesh. I believe USTM is one of the best universities in North East India”, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Tanvir Monsur said that educational and cultural connectivity between Bangladesh and India’s North East can be started initially by introducing programmes like students’ exchange, 15-days excursion and workshop and then 4-years graduation programme. He also mentioned about the tourism sector in Meghalaya with potential tourists from Bangladesh, a press release stated.
