Fake call centre busted; 4 held by Hatigaon police

GUWAHATI: The Hatigaon police busted an authorized call centre - OA Business Solution - on Wednesday night and arrested four persons in this connection.

Police sources identified those arrested as Zahid Ahmed (owner of the call centre) of Bhetapara, Ankita Sarma Roy, Arbindra Balgrami and Pankaj Debnath (all from Kolkata).

They were produced in court and remanded to police custody on Thursday.

According to the sources, the busted call centre acted as a subsidiary of a Kolkata-based call centre and entrapped NRIs in countries such as the UK by offering to provide anti-pest-call software.

The sources said that it is suspected the motive of the racket was to digitally loot the bank accounts of the victims in future, but details will be clear only after the Kolkata-based accompices are caught and questioned.

A case (236/2022 u/s 406/420/419 IPC, r/w section 66 (D) of IT Act) has been registered at the Hatigaon Police Station in this regard.
