GUWAHATI: The Bhangagarh police on Thursday arrested a fake doctor who was practicing at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Polices sources identified the quack doctor as Pranabjyoti Das, a resident of Gauripur. The sources said that Das had forged an identity card of GMCH and added his details to it to practice as a doctor at the hospital. He had even forged official documents in the name of Dr Pranabjyoti Das along with the fake ID card, which identified him as an assistant professor.
The fake doctor was initially detected while he was attending to some patients at a ward of the hospital. The relative of a patient approached Das but smelt alcohol on him. The patient's relative grew suspicious and complained to the GMCH authorities, leading to unmasking of the charlatan.
The GMCH authorities subsequently handed Das over to the police.
The police sources said that the forged ID card mentioned that it had been issued in 2015 and that Das belonged to the neurosurgery department. However, the signature on the ID card did not belong to any official of the GMCH.
It is learnt that Das has claimed that he had previously worked at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
