FICN racket busted; one held by Special Task Force team in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: An STF (Special Task Force) team apprehended a person, Md. Bulbul Alam (31), involved in the FICN (fake Indian currency notes) case, from a rented house in Dakshin Gaon today.

Acting on an input, an operation was conducted on July 5, 2023, in Guwahati by a team of STF, Guwahati, leading to the arrest of Md. Sahanoor Islam (28), involved in illegal activities relating to FICN from near the ISBT Bypass, Guwahati. Further, after spot interrogation, a search operation was conducted at the house of the accused person located at Ahom Gaon, Guwahati, from where several bundles of photostated Indian currency notes of 500 denominations and bundles of blank white papers of the size and shape of Indian currency notes of 500 denominations were recovered. The accused, Md. Sahanoor Islam, lures people into providing double the amount of FICN against original Indian currency notes. The modus operandi of the cheater is to lure people and loot the original currency notes when a person approaches him for exchanging with double numbers of FICN, police sources said.

The accused is originally from Alooguti Sar in the Barpeta district.
