GUWAHATI: The final electoral rolls for the forthcoming elections to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), which contain the names of around eight lakh voters, were published on Saturday.
According to the Election Branch of the Kamrup (M) district administration, there will be 780 polling booths spread across the 60 newly-delimited wards on the day of elections.
According to the updated electoral rolls, there are 7,97,807 voters in the GMC area. Women voters outnumber their men counterparts as there are 4,00,654 of them, as against 3,97,128 men. There are also 26 transgender voters.
As per the 2011 census, the population in the GMC area is 9,57,352, including 4,95,362 men and 4,61,990 women.
The Scheduled Caste (SC) population is 55,721, including 28,619 men and 27, 102 women. The Scheduled Tribe (ST) population is 43,276, including 22,028 and 21, 248 women.
Ward No. 52 of the GMC, comprising the Noonmati and Jyotinagar areas and a part of the Bamunimaidam area, has the largest electorate with 26,204 voters. Ward No. 60, comprising part of the Baghorbori area, Satgaon area and Madhab Nagar, Khanapara area has the second-highest number of voters with 24,683. Ward No. 36, comprising Christian Basti, Udayachal, Ganeshguri, part of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital area, and parts of Kahilipara and Jatia areas, comes third with 20,354 voters.
Ward No. 38, comprising parts of Barsajai, Hatigaon, Natboma and Embankment Road areas, has lowest number of voters with 6,040. Ward No. 24, comprising the Sonaighuli, Jugashree Nagar, Odalbakra, Jyotishreenagar, parts of Dakhingaon, Jyotikuchi and Shreebhumi Nagar, has the second-lowest number of voters with 7,014.
