GUWAHATI: The Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) has welcomed the tariff order issued by the Assam Electricity Commission (AERC) on March 29, 2023. The tariff order has resulted in a decrease in energy charges by 10p/kWh after subsuming the present Fuel and Power Purchase Price Adjustment (FPPPA) in all categories, while the fixed charges have increased by only Rs. 10/kw in all categories, said FINER. FINER had earlier raised objections to the proposed power tariff hike by Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). The Federation had filed a petition against the proposed hike by APDCL, which included an increase of 250-300p in energy charges and Rs 50- Rs 75 increase in fixed charges. FINER said that the decision taken by AERC was a major relief for MSME consumers, small businesses, and especially low-income households and small businesses.
“We thank the AERC for considering our objections and taking cognizance of the interests of all consumers, especially those who are vulnerable and least able to bear the burden of tariff hikes,” said Bajrang Lohia, president of FINER.
