GUWAHATI: The first phase of Gunotsav 2023, which started on January 18, concluded on Saturday in 11 districts of Assam - Barpeta, Karimganj, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Nagaon, Sivasagar, South Salmara Mankachar and Udalguri.
A total of 15,08,703 students from class-I to class-IX of 16,937 schools - Government, provincialized schools , tea garden management schools, Adarsha Vidyalaya, tea garden model schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avasiya Vidyalaya - participated/evaluated in the exercise.
During the evaluation process, IAS, IPS, ACS, APS, APS and other Grade-I and Grade-II officers took active part as External Evaluators. Similarly, Ministers, MPs, MLAs and EMs also took part as External Evaluators in various schools and interacted with the students, teachers, parents/guardians, mother groups, community members etc.
On first day of external evaluation, the Minister of Education and other portfolios, Dr Ranoj Pegu visited Jengraimukh HS School and No 52 Haldhibari LP School in the Majuli district and the Afala Mising Janajati ME School and Lakhminath Bezbarua Sishu Bhawan LP School of the Sivasagar district and interacted with students, teachers, parents/guardians, community members etc.
The State's Minister of Transport and other portfolios, Parimal Suklabaidya visited the Bhogeswar Hazarika Girls' Higher Secondary School and JB Garh Swahid Smriti Higher Secondary School in the Nagaon district as External Evaluator. The Minister of Revenue & Disaster Management etc., Jogen Mohan visited the Diphu Government Girls' High School in the Karbi Anglong district and the Minister of Industries & Commerce and Public Enterprise etc., Bimal Bora visited the Ambagaon Boro Higher Secondary School and Hatigarh High School in the Udalguri district in the same capacity.
On second day of external evaluation, Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu visited the Kaliabor Girls' HS School, Kuwaritol HS School and Puranigudam RKB HS School in the Nagaon district, while the Health and Family Welfare Minister, Keshab Mahanta visited the Jakhalabandha HS School I the Nagaon district and the Minister of Environment & Forest etc., Chandra Mohan Patowary visited the Anchalik High School Phulguri under the Rani block of the Kamrup district. All the ministers served as External Evalautors.
On the concluding day of external evaluation on Saturday, Dr Ranoj Pegu visited the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Barpeta (Baradi), Adarsha Vidyalaya, Rupshi Pt. (Dahalapara) and Gopinath Bordoloi Memorial High School in Barpeta Road. The Minister of Agriculture etc., Atul Bora visited the Pahigaon HS School under the Naoboicha Block of the Lakhimpur district as External Evaluator, while the Minister of Panchayat & Rural Development etc., Ranjeet Kumar Dass visited the Uttar Bajali High School in the Barpeta district as External Evaluator and interacted with students, teachers, parents/guardians etc. The External Evaluators evaluated the performance of the students on scholastic aptitude in skill (reading, writing and numeracy/basic mathematical operations) and subject areas, as well as other indicators.
It may be mentioned that the 2nd Phase of Gunotsav-2023 will be held from February 1 to February 4 and cover the Baksa, Chirang, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Kamrup (M), Sonitpur, Tinsukia, West Karbi Anglong districts along with Hojai (part of the Nagaon district). A total of 15,556 schools and 15,07,867 students will be covered in the second phase of Gunotsav 2023.
