First time in Northeast: Guwahati to host Filmfare Awards in February 2020

The most prestigious and glamorous cine awards, Filmfare Awards will be held in Guwahati, Assam in February 2020. This is the very first time ever that the gala event will be held out of Mumbai.

As per the report, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard will be signed between The Times Group, organizers of the event and the Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC), within this month. To promote Assam tourism at national and international levels, Guwahati is hosting the award show as part of the state government’s initiative to use Bollywood’s influence. The event is likely to be held on February 15, 2020, an estimated budget of Rs 20-30 Crore will be hosted.

The Government of Assam announcing lucrative incentives and cash benefits for Hindi, English and other language films in the State Tourism Policy if such films are shot in Assam. Earlier, actress Priyanka Chopra was roped in as the brand ambassador of Assam Tourism.

According to the official of ATDC, the MoU has already been prepared and other practical details in the process to finalized within this month. The award ceremony is likely to be held at Sarusajai, Khanapara, and Amingaon.

One of the major events in the State tourism’s hectic calendar of events and all the measures have been taken successfully to host the event of such scale having millions of followers globally.

Meanwhile, authorities from the Assam government on August 10 said that Rs. 300 Crore has been sanctioned to promote the state as a global tourist destination.
