Former AGP Minister Rekha Rani Das Boro Joins BJP

GUWAHATI: The membership drive carried by BJP ended on August 20 and in Assam the drive enrolled a total of 16 lakh 94 thousand and 51 new members under its fold.

In a press meet cum joining programme held at BJP office Hengerabari, state president Ranjit Kumar Das said, “We received immense support from the people and we succeed in enrolling around 17 lakh member in our state”. Das added, “This membership drive will be continued in the days ahead, but, the members will not be able to take part in the upcoming election. Later on they will be able to take part in the election and apply their candidature”.

In the presence of State president of BJP Assam Pradesh, Ranjit Kumar Das; state general secretary Phanindra Nath Sarma; MP Queen Oja and some other BJP workers many women from different field including Rekha Rani Das Boro formally joined BJP and took their membership. The other members include Former HOD of Education department of Guwahati University Nilima Bhagabati, Senior advocate Niropama Saikia, social activist Rupali Das, Pranati Sarma, advocate Arundhati Bora and many others. Giving reasons for Rekha Rani Das Boro, on joining the BJP, Ranjit Kumar Das said, “we’ve not considered her on the basis of her identity as being a leader of AGP, but as a social activist”. Das also announced that on August 24 BJP State committee will address their statement on NRC.
