GUWAHATI: Former AxamXahityaXabha (AXX) president ParamanandaRajbongshi joined the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) at the regional party's headquarters here on Tuesday.
Apart from Rajbongshi, Educationists DrBalen Kumar Das and DrNaniGopalGoswami, AJYCP Bongaigaon District Committee president and secretary among various others joined the party.
The former Xabha president said he has joined the party with a specific aim and will serve to solve the issues of the State.
"Most of the issues in Assam are political. These political issues are needed to be solved in a political way," Rajbongshi asserted.
He underlined that the AGP was formed due to the Assam Agitation and in the last four decades people of the State are filled with hopes and disappointments.
"The 2021 election is not important for me. However, if the party asks me with honour to contest the elections then I will ask permission from the people of my constituency," said Rajbongshi.
Advocating for regionalism, Rajbongshi said the regional problems should be solved through discussions.
Welcoming the former Sabha president and other personalities who joined the party, AGP president Atul Bora said joining of prominent personalities and members of other organizations has revitalized the party.
"We aim to move forward with a renewed force and rectify the mistakes of the past. We are trying to take the people in the right direction," said Bora. Further, talking about alliance, he said it the need of the hour.
"Almost in every State there is alliance. Our alliance with the BJP (BharatiyaJanata Party) is not new. In the past we have tried whole heartedly to solve the problems of the people," the Minister stressed.
He underlined that if Clause 6 of the Assam Accord is implemented then the rights of the indigenous people will be preserved and the Assamese community will be 'saved'. With this aim we have allied with the BJP, he added.
"We have witnessed the anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) Agitation. It is not possible to force the Centre to scrap the CAA by dancing on the streets. There are alternate ways to appeal for scrapping of the Act. The anti-CAA agitation mostly had supporters of the Congress and the AIUDF. These protestors had set fire on our public property," Bora opined.
Lastly, he said that under the AGP the people of the State will witness 'good days.' "The pride of the AGP will be restored. Not with emotions but with logic. We will go forward and fulfill the need of the people. No matter with whom the alliance is forged, the character of the AGP will not fade away," Bora added.
