GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has appointed a committee to carry out survey to demarcate the boundary of Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary.

In a hearing on PIL/27/2013 with WP(C) No. 415/2018, a bench of the Gauhati High Court comprising Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak stated, "In spite of our orders, Department of Survey, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India has not done the survey as was required." Hence the court appointed a committee headed by the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam, in which the Principal Secretary/Secretary Revenue, Government of Assam, as well as the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Assam will also be members.

The survey will be done by the Department of Survey, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, who is represented by RKD Choudhury, Assistant Solicitor General of India. Choudhury said that all help would be provided by the Department of Survey, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, so that the land can be clearly demarcated as to which part of the land is under forest cover and which part of the land is revenue land. The court order stated that "this is by way of a last opportunity".

The committee has been directed by the court to submit the report of the survey within four weeks.
