Gauhati High Court asks Chief Secy to expedite statues of 11 freedom fighters

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has directed the Chief Secretary of Assam to issue a speaking order within six weeks in response to a representation made by certain petitioners regarding construction of statues of 11 freedom fighters under a Government scheme.

The directive came in connection with a PIL (No. 34/2022) which submitted that only three of the 11 statues have been constructed so far under the common scheme at a cost of over Rs 50 lakh. The PIL alleged that no response has been forthcoming to three representations submitted to the authorities.
