Gauhati High Court orders road construction on its land

GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court has set the stage for construction of a public link road on land belonging to the court, which will connect the Malibagan area with the Bhupen Hazarika Road here.

In order to expedite the process, the court has impleaded the Public Works Department (PWD), the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) in a PIL filed in connection with encroachment of land belonging to the Gauhati High Court.

The court took this step after it noticed that there is a provision for a public road in the relevant trace map, which has not been constructed thus far.

The court observed that the PWD, the GMDA and the GMC "would be the best authorities to ensure construction of the link road as per the map."
