GUWAHATI: Gauhati University conducted a one-day ICCSR-sponsored seminar on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat. Its topic was Reaching Out to the Periphery: PM’s Mann Ki Baat and its Impact on North East India" at the P.D. Hall of Gauhati University on Saturday.

The Vice Chancellor, Pratap Jyoti Handique, gave the inaugural speech of the seminar. He appreciated the initiative taken by the university to academically analyse the impact the Prime Minister’s radio initiative has on the Northeast. Professor Nani Gopal Mahanta, Educational Advisor to the Government of Assam, was the guest of honour. He said the North East of India is no longer the periphery, and Mann Ki Baat has played a vital role in mainstreaming the region in the public imagination in India.

The Vice Chancellor released a special issue of the GUINEIS Journal on the theme "Mann Ki Baat and North East India," and the editor of the special issue, Professor Sudeshna Bhattacharya, Head, Department of Sanskrit, was present on the occasion.

Presenting theme papers on the subject of the seminar were Professor Dhruba Pratim Sharma, the project investigator for Mann Ki Baat from the Department of Political Science at Gauhati University; Dr. Vikash Tripathi, an assistant professor in the same department; and Professor Nandita Saikia from the Department of Public Health and Mortality Studies at the International Institute for Population Science in Mumbai. The Registrar of Gauhati University, Dr. Hemanta Kumar Nath, delivered the vote of thanks. The seminar witnessed a confluence of academicians, administrative officers, employees, research scholars, and students of the university.
