Gauhati University decision leaves BPL students worried

GUWAHATI: In what is being called an unfortunate development by the students, Gauhati University (GU) has denied free admission for eligible candidates who belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category. The Students’ Union of Gauhati University had earlier submitted a memorandum to the State Education Minister regarding this issue, but no positive response came from the authorities concerned. Now the students from economically-backward families are worried about their education. It has also not been revealed as to why this criterion was removed by the education department.
