Gauhati West LAC: Congress candidate spells out roadmap for development

GUWAHATI: Congress' Gauhati West candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami has released a set of her own plans and dreams in the form of a manifesto for the development of West Gauhati constituency. The booklet, projected as her manifesto, was released by women belonging to various ethnic communities of the State at a function.

Talking to the media, Gowami said, "My top priority is ensuring potable water, besides LPG connections to those who haven't got them as yet. The BJP government in the State failed to provide dependable water supply projects to the people of Guwahati. It has also failed to complete the JNURM-sponsored West Guwahati Water Supply Project 90 per cent works of which were completed during the Congress regime.

"Residents in areas like Kahilipara, Jatia, Basistha, GS Colony Hillside in Fatasil Ambari, Kailash Nagar, Odalbakra, Lalganesh, Lokhra etc have been bearing the brunt of scarcity of drinking water. Hence my priority is to provide them potable water.

"Many people of my constituency don't have land pattas. Providing them land pattas is my another priority area. I'll take measures to protect the lands in tribal belts and blocks. A move is afoot to lease out such lands illegally. I'll prevent the move from becoming a reality.

"Development of roads and paths, scientific disposal of garbage, adequate market places, cleaning the Bharalu River, protecting Borsola, Deepor Beel and other wetlands in the LAC, preserving all heritage sites, stopping earth-cutting on hills, ensuring security for unorganized labourers and vendors, etc are also in my priority list."

She said that since the people of her constituency are residing in remote areas, she would procure a mobile ban to go to problem-ridden areas to take note of the problems of the people there.
