GUWAHATI: An eviction drive was carried out by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) against an unauthorized vendor on Saturday, 18 December.
The joint inspection was conducted by the Veterinary and Enforcement Branch of the GMC and the Assam Police team and it included the areas of Ajanta Path, Survey, Beltola Bazar, Jayanagar Chariali, Basistha Chariali, Lalmati, Beharbari, Bhetapara, Hatigaon Road, Kahilipara, Jatia and Bhangagarh area.
The roadside and footpath vendors who were selling poultry, mutton, fish, pork and vegetables without permission were evicted in this drive.
259 unauthorized vendors of fish, poultry, mutton and pork were evicted during the time of the drive. 70 mutton shops were inspected and 60 kg of mutton, 200 kg of poultry, 50 kg of vegetable, 70 kg of pork and 35 kg of fish have been confiscated.
The violators were imposed with a penalty of Rs. 25,000 by the GMC and the confiscated materials have been disposed of at Boragoan dumping ground.
Earlier, Guwahati Municipal Corporation's (GMC) Health and Enforcement branches conducted a drive in the Athgaon and Kumarpara areas of the city on December 17, 2021.
During the drive, a total of 9 (nine) business establishments were inspected, including 3 (three) Fast Food Stalls, 4 (four) Hardware Shops, 1 (one) Sweet Shop, and 1 (one) Unisex Salon, of which 3 (three) trades were found to be operating without a valid trade licence.
Fines were enforced under the terms of the GMC Act for violations of specific rules and regulations. Moreover, during the same drive, one shop that was functioning on an expanding walkway and obstructing public transportation was evicted.
During the drive, a total of Rs. 11,000/- (Rupees Eleven Thousand only) was collected as a penalty.
