GUWAHATI: The Veterinary Branch and Enforcement Branch of the GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) conducted a joint inspection at different poultry and meat shops across Guwahati against the unhygienic sale of meat.
The inspection drive was carried out at Bhootnath, Beltola, Basistha, Katahbari and the Ganeshpara area of Guwahati. During the inspection, the GMC team found that various poultry, mutton vendors were operating illegally without a valid licence or taking valid authorization from the district administration. Also, shopkeepers were found defying COVID-19 protocol including social distancing norms.
In this regard, the GMC Veterinary Branch seized 25 live goats, 10 kg poultry and 5 kg mutton from the unauthorized shops during the raid.
Against 25 live goats, 5 kg mutton and 10 kg poultry, Rs 47,000, Rs 1,000, and Rs 5,000 penalties were imposed on the shopkeepers respectively.
