GUWAHATI GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) is yet to get Rs 250 crore property tax. The civic body set the target of collecting property tax amounting to Rs 130 crore this year. However, it has collected Rs 65 crore so far. It hopes to meet the target in the remaining days of December.

GMC has offered a reduction in property tax payments. It has announced a 50 per cent reduction for property taxpayers who have not paid their property taxes since or before 2019 if they clear the amount in December. If such tax defaulters pay property tax after December, they will get 30 per cent off.

Meanwhile, GMC and APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd) have collaborated to enhance property tax collection. APDCL has asked all its power consumers of Guwahati to provide their holding numbers to link the power consumer number and GMC's holding number.

From tomorrow, GMC and APDCL will jointly hold camps for linking GMC-holding numbers and APDCL consumer numbers in each ward under the civic body.
