Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended its four party members for allegedly contesting as Independent candidates against the party's official candidates.
The decision was taken on Thursday after it was found that those who denied tickets for the ensuing Guwahati civic polls were mulling to contest independently.
The four expelled members of the BJP party have been identified as Mithun Chanda, Gautam Sarma, Bimla Devi and Priyadarshni Devi.
''The state party president Bhabesh Kalita has expelled the four members as per section 25 and subsection 9 of the party's constitution with immediate effect for contesting as Independent candidates/opposition candidates against the party's nominated candidates,'' state BJP said in an official statement.
The Guwahati Municipal Elections (GMC) will be held on April 22, counting to be done on April 24, 2022.
The total number of voters in the municipal elections is 6,98,829 and the total number of polling stations is 69.
After a massive win in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is eyeing to repeat its victory in the state too as the party has announced to contest GMC.
