GUWAHATI: A conglomeration of six political parties have demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge on the firing incident by the State police at the Dholpur-Gorukhuti areas under Darrang District on September 23, 2021. The representatives of the six Left parties announced this in a joint press meet here on Saturday. The six parties are the CPI (Communist Party of India), CPI(Marxist), CPI(Marxist-Leninist), RCPI (Revolutionary Communist Party of India), RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal), AGM (Anchalik Gana Morcha).

They also demanded that the eviction drive in that area must be stopped until the affected people are rehabilitated in an alternative location.

The six parties also demanded adequate compensation for the injured and the next of kin of the deceased in the shooting incident.

In another development connected with the upcoming bye-polls in six LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) across Assam, the six parties have called for a joint strategy against the BJP alliance and to support a common candidate.

The press meet was addressed by Munin Mahanta (CPI), Deben Bhattacharyya (CPI-M), Pankaj Das (CPI-ML), Phuleswari Basumatary (RCPI), Sonaru Shah Mustafa (RJD), and MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan (AGM).

KSUP DEMANDS CBI PROBE: The KSUP ('Krishak Sramik Unnayan Parishad, Axom') has demanded an inquiry by the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) into the Gorukuti-Dhalpur incident. This was demanded by the organization's chief adviser Pradip Kalita during a press meet at the Dispur Press Club on Saturday. They have also demanded that examplary punishment must be meted to the people involved in the incident.
