PROTESTS CONTINUE AGAINST PRICE HIKE
STAFF REPORTER
GUWAHATI: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has slammed the State government for the price hike of essential commodities in various parts of the State. The AJYCP said that the government has failed to control the soaring prices and demanded resignation of Food and Civil Supplies Minister PhaniBhushanChoudhury.
In a statement, AJYCP general secretary PalashChangmai said the Chief Minister and Food and Civil Supplies Minister have already failed to control the price hike of essential commodities.
"The government has not taken any necessary step to control the surging prices. It didn't show determination to control the price hike," stated Changmai.
The AJYCP alleged that taking benefit of the price hike some MLAs and Ministers of the government are collecting commission through middlemen, brokers, and businessmen from outside the State. Thus, the government is not acting strongly to tackle the situation, it added.
"The Chief Minister once said that he will take action against syndicates. However, currently his cabinet includes several syndicate leaders. The newly established toll gates and syndicates in the State are among the reasons for the price hike," Changmai added. In this regard, the AJYCP said it will stage protest on Thursday against the 'failure' of the government.
