Governor takes stock of GAD, Handloom, Textile and Sericulture Department

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, in a meeting at Raj Bhavan, took stock of the General Administration Department (GAD) with a special focus on digitization and transforming the entire state manual filing system into an e-file on Wednesday.

Additional Chief Secretary of GAD Avinash Joshi presented to the Governor the initiatives of the department in making the bulk of the state administration digital, fast, and flawless. The governor said that in the digital era, importance should be given to the full-scale implementation of the e-office system, which, according to him, will lead to a significant enhancement of administrative efficiency in the state. The governor took stock of the construction of Assam Bhavans being built in several cities in the country.

Kataria also emphasised the need to revamp the capacity of the circuit houses in every district and sub-district of the state. Capacity enhancement will help the circuit houses meet the needs of the common public, besides government employees. This will also lead to enhanced revenue generation and their proper maintenance, the governor added.

In a different meeting, Kataria also took stock of the activities and schemes of the Handloom, Textile, and Sericulture Department. The secretary of the department, Dilip Kumar Borah, provided a comprehensive overview of the department, including budgetary allocations and the department's exclusive Amrit Kaal vision.

Considering the demands of handloom products, the governor asked the department to market the products aggressively in and outside the state. He stressed the potential of handloom and handicraft products to showcase the cultural heritage of the state. In recognition of the exquisitely beautiful creative work undertaken by women self-help groups, the governor asked the department to intensively arrange for high-quality training for the weavers and artisans.

Moreover, the governor advocated for establishing collaborative initiatives with both the Central and State Khadi Bhawans to showcase and market the region's rich handloom and textile products across the country. Such a collaborative effort, he said, would undoubtedly propel the department to attain national and international recognition. This would also promote the cultural heritage and economic prospects of Assam.

Minister GAD Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Minister Handloom and Textile U.G. Brahma, and the senior officers of the government were present at the meetings, stated a press release.
