Grievance Redressal Cell formed for students of Gauhati University

GUWAHATI: Gauhati University (GU) has formed the Students' Grievance Redressal Cell (SGRC) and named an Ombudsperson to handle the problems faced by the students enrolled in Gauhati University as well as those seeking admission to the same. This committee has been formed as per the University Grants Commission (Redressal of Grievances of Students) Regulations, 2023, by the Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University. Prof. (retired) Sauravpran Goswami, former Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Gauhati University, has been appointed as the Ombudsperson.

For the Students' Grievance Redressal Cell (SGRC), Prof. (Dr) Jagadish Sama, Dept. of Sanskrit and Secretary, University Classes (in charge), Gauhati University has been named the Chairperson. Prof. (Dr.) Rudra Kanta Deka, Department of Mathematics at Gauhati University; Prof. (Dr.) Swama Prabha Chainary, Department of Bodo, Gauhati University; and Prof. (Dr.) Rajib Handique, Department of History, Gauhati University, have been named members of this committee. Prof. (Dr.) Jayanta Kuhna Sarma, Department of Political Science, Gauhati University, has been named Member Convener, and the President of the Postgraduate Students Union is a Special Invitee to this committee.

The Ombudsperson and Students Grievance Redressal Cell (SORC), Gauhati University, shall exercise its powers and functions as per the University Grants Commission (Redressal of Grievances of Student Regulations, 2023). It was also mentioned that the chairperson and members of the Students' Grievance Redressal Cell have a tenure period of two years from the date of the notification.
