Guwahati: All Educational InstitutesTo Remain Closed On June 16

Guwahati: The Kamrup (metro) district administration has announced that all educational institutions in the city will be closed on June 16 as a result of heavy showers which have lashed various parts of the city since the last few days.

"In view of the weather forecast issued by Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding incessant rain fall in Kamrup Metropolitan District for tomorrow i.e 16/06/2022," an official in a notification said.

"All educational institutions, both government and private, are hereby advised to close tomorrow, with the exception of the conduct of examinations that have already been scheduled," the official added.

All the educational institutions in Guwahati were instructed to be closed down on June 15 by the district administration due to the current situation that is prevailing in the city due to incessant rainfall.

In view of continuous heavy showers, the Kamrup Metropolitan District Administration on June 14 issued an urgent advisory for the people, wherein, it asked citizens not to go out unless necessary.

The District Administration has also issued helpline numbers for any emergency situation.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on June 13 predicted that the northeastern region will continue to receive heavy rainfall till June 17 and also issued a red alert for the state of Assam and Meghalaya.

"Moisture incursion is very likely to continue due to strong lower level southerly/southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India during June 13 to 17," IMD's senior scientist Sanjay O'Neill Shaw said.

Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning/heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places is most likely to continue over the Northeast till June 17.
