GUWAHATI: The fourth day of the Assam Legislative Assembly Winter Session on Thursday witnessed demonstrations by several organizations seeking fulfillment of their various demands.

Among them were the All Assam Non-Provincialized Teachers' Association, All Assam NRC Junior Assistants, All Assam Special Police Officers' Welfare Association and the All Assam Non-Provincialized Fourth Grade College Employees Association. The All Assam Non-Provincialized Teachers' Association staged a protest at Chachal seeking provincialization of all government recognized public educational institutions of the state in line with the National Education Policy 2020. The association demanded that all public educational institutions which have held HSLC examinations prior to January 1, 2006 should be provincialized by the government. Moreover it also sought provincialization of posts which were left out from the purview of provincialization during 2013 and 2021.

The All Assam NRC Junior Assistants too sat on a protest seeking priority in government jobs for the NRC junior assistants whose contractual jobs were terminated by the government in April. The State government had appointed 262 junior assistants for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) on contractual basis for a fixed pay and completed more than five years of service in the district and block levels before their jobs were terminated. The All Assam Special Police Officers' Welfare Association on the other hand sought regularization of their jobs and recognition of their fellow colleagues as martyrs who have lost their live while on duty fighting militancy. It also sought relaxation of upper age limit in jobs and reservation for SPOs in the 500-odd jobs which it said were lying vacant in the AISF (Assam Industrial Security Force) battalion.

Similarly, the All Assam Non-Provincialized Fourth Grade College Employees Association job regularization of all grade four employees of government colleges in the state who have served for a continuous period of 5 to 25 years.
