Guwahati: Today, Howrah bound train derailed near Chaygaon Railway Station around 1:30 pm. As per reports, four coaches of the Guwahati-Howrah Special Express train went off the tracks. The train had left Guwahati Railway Station at around 12:20 pm.
This was informed by Guneet Kaur, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR). According to him, the incident took place in the Guwahati-Goalpara-Bongaigaon section under the Rangiya division of Northeast Frontier Railway.
As per reports, there was no casualty and no passenger was involved.
The NFR CPRO informed that four coaches of the train including the pantry car derailed had derailed. "Passengers of the affected coaches have been shifted to other coaches," CPRO Kaur said.
He added that senior officials of the NFR headquarters and Rangiya division had reached the site on hearing about the incident. Furthermore, he asserted that all affected passengers were given the necessary assistance. Also, the restoration work has already begun.
In July, a Guwahati bound 05604 Dn Ledu Guwahati COVID Special (Intercity-Express) had derailed near Borgolai in between Ledu and Margherita at around 3.30 pm on Sunday. Though the passengers escaped meticulously, the front wheels (1st pair) of the engine moved out of rail crashing check rail at several points, according to a railway source adding that as the train was moving at low speed due to curve tracking, the impact was less or else it would have been fatal. Senior railway officials along with an accident relief train from Tinsukia Division have reached the spot.
