Guwahati: The Kamrup District Administration has banned unauthorized buses stoppages atop flyovers in the Guwahati city with immediate effect.

The decision was taken during a meeting on Wednesday chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Pallab Gopal Jha.

At a meeting, the Deputy Commissioner instructed to affix fresh signposts at all the 60 designated city bus stops and any city bus driver who halts his vehicle at any place other than these stops should be dealt with sternly.

Jha also directed that no city bus driver should be henceforth allowed to stop their respective vehicle on the flyovers of the city.

In a related development, a GMC official informed that the decision to demarcate various city bus stops in the city has been taken because city bus drivers and conductors frequently use the pretext that there are unable to properly discern the designated bus stops.

From now, action will taken errant drivers instead of the bus owners for any unauthorized stoppages of the vehicle, the official said.
