GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will be undertaking several projects in 2024. The work on some of these projects has already started, while others are yet to begin.

Some of the planned projects include parks, not only with the aim of encouraging people to exercise and children to play but also to help in the beautification of the localities and the city as a whole. GMDA already has three projects related to the development of parks in the city. Out of them, work has already started on one park. Named the Bhupen Hazarika Nizara Memorial Park, this project is under construction in the Chandmari area of the city.

One of the most important beautification projects in the city is the Brahmaputra riverfront development project, which is expected to give a very beautiful panoramic view of the river within the city. The GMDA has mentioned that almost 90% of the work has already been completed on this project and will soon be unveiled for the public, and both locals and visitors will be able to spend a good time out here in the days to come.

The agency is also planning to create a master plan to network the waterways across the city. This project involves the creation of proper maps of the existing waterways, clearing them of any obstructions, and creating new waterways if found necessary. This project aims at getting rid of the urban flooding problem in the city. This project will also look into the rejuvenation of the wetlands in the city to ensure that their water-holding capacity is improved.
