GUWAHATI: In lieu of the previously determined city bus regulations under the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) resolution for streamlining of city buses, the District Transport Office (DTO) has forwarded a letter to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) to complete the pending works. The decision was taken for better service of the passengers as well as to ensure road safety, however, certain directives have been stalled by GMC, which the DTO desired fulfilled at the earliest.

The pending RTA directives mandated for the GMC included removal of illegal bus stops. The new bus stops should be constructed not less than a distance of one kilometer from one stop to another. Also, the collector of Guwahati Municipal Corporation is directed to take necessary steps for route-wise numbering of the bus stopes by consulting with both the DTO and RTO. City buses are not allowed to stop at every stop, they can halt at alternative stops where the route numbers are displayed on the respective city buses. These among other pending works are directed to be completed at the earliest by the GMC so that the regulations can be implemented.
